Design Technology Technician
Location: Walsall / Birmingham

Pay Rate: £110–£120 per day
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Design Technology Technician to join a thriving secondary school in the Walsall/Birmingham area from September 2026.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled individual to support a busy and successful Design Technology department. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring lessons run smoothly by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and supporting teachers and students across a range of practical subjects.
The school is looking for a reliable and organised technician who has previous experience working within a UK secondary school environment and understands the demands of a practical DT setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and organise materials, tools, and equipment for Design Technology lessons.
- Support teaching staff during practical sessions when required.
- Maintain workshops, classrooms, and storage areas to a high standard.
- Ensure all equipment is safe, functional, and ready for use.
- Carry out routine maintenance and basic repairs of tools and machinery.
- Monitor and manage stock levels, ordering materials when necessary.
- Support with the preparation of displays, projects, and examination coursework.
- Ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to at all times.
- Conduct risk assessments and maintain relevant safety records.
- Assist with the safe storage and disposal of materials and equipment.
- Provide technical support across a range of DT disciplines, including Resistant Materials, Product Design, Engineering, Graphics and CAD/CAM where applicable.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Design Technology Technician within a UK secondary school.
- Good understanding of workshop health and safety procedures.
- Knowledge of a range of DT tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A proactive and flexible approach to work.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
