Director of Strategy and Performance
Salary: £74,033 – £80,915 per annum
Location: St Albans
Hours: Full Time, 37 hours per week
About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional Director of Strategy and Performance to join our senior leadership team in a pivotal role reporting directly to the CEO.
This is a highly influential position, comparable in seniority to our Vice Principals, and closely aligned to a Chief of Staff role. The post has been created to bring greater structure, clarity and alignment across strategic planning, organisational performance and executive operations.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring our Strategic Plan is clearly understood across the organisation and translated into measurable priorities and deliverable outcomes. They will provide visibility of progress, performance, risks and opportunities, enabling informed decision-making at the highest level.
A key responsibility will be leading the development and drafting of our next Strategic Plan, helping to shape the future direction of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will:
- Drive the implementation and delivery of the organisation's strategic priorities.
- Ensure the Strategic Plan is translated into clear, measurable objectives and actions.
- Develop robust performance frameworks that provide transparency around progress, risks and outcomes.
- Strengthen the organisation's use of KPIs and performance data to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Shape and enhance the effectiveness of Executive Team operations.
- Keep Executive Team discussions focused on the appropriate strategic issues and priorities.
- Foster a more joined-up, accountable and collaborative approach across the senior leadership team.
- Lead strategic planning processes and play a key role in developing and drafting the next Strategic Plan.
- Provide high-level strategic advice and support to the CEO and Executive Team.
About You
We are looking for an experienced strategic leader who is already operating successfully in a comparable role.
You will likely have experience as a:
- Chief of Staff
- Director of Strategy
- Director of Performance and Planning
- Executive Director with significant strategic leadership responsibilities
- Equivalent senior strategic leadership professional
You will bring:
- A proven track record of supporting CEOs and Executive Teams in the delivery of organisational strategy.
- Significant experience driving performance, governance and strategic planning within a complex organisation.
- The ability to translate strategic objectives into measurable outcomes and organisational priorities.
- Strong commercial and organisational insight, balancing long-term strategic thinking with delivery.
- Experience developing and embedding KPI and performance management frameworks.
- Exceptional stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.
- The credibility and confidence to challenge constructively and drive accountability at Executive Team level.
