Location: Farnborough, Hampshire
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 per annum

Role Overview:

We are seeking a qualified and accredited Duty Solicitor to join our Criminal Defence team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a well-established firm known for its commitment to justice and client advocacy. The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload of criminal matters, attend police stations and magistrates’ courts, and provide expert legal advice and representation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend police stations and magistrates’ courts as part of the duty rota.
  • Provide legal advice and representation to clients under the Legal Aid scheme.
  • Manage a caseload of criminal defence matters including theft, assault, drug offences, and public order offences.
  • Prepare cases for trial and liaise with barristers, experts, and other professionals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records using the firm’s case management system.
  • Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements and firm policies.
  • Contribute to the development of junior staff and trainees where appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Solicitor with Duty Solicitor accreditation.
  • Minimum 1 year PQE in criminal law.
  • Strong advocacy skills and experience in Magistrates’ Court.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with Legal Aid procedures and billing.
