Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer
Location: South Yorkshire (UK wide travel)
Salary: Up to £50k (DOE)
We're working with a specialist engineering company that designs and delivers bespoke systems for customers across a range of highly regulated industries. Due to continued growth, they're looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join their systems integration team.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on varied, technically challenging projects from concept through to installation and commissioning, collaborating with software, systems, and project engineers to deliver innovative solutions.
About the Role
- Design electrical control systems and instrumentation using EPLAN (or similar electrical CAD packages)
- Select appropriate control, measurement, and electrical hardware based on customer requirements
- Produce electrical schematics, technical documentation, test plans, and commissioning documentation
- Build, test, troubleshoot, and commission electrical systems
- Support on-site installation and commissioning across customer sites
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and CE/UKCA requirements
- Collaborate with software, mechanical, and systems engineers to deliver integrated engineering solutions
- Participate in hardware design reviews and resolve technical issues across electrical and control systems
- Support supplier selection, component integration, and proof-of-concept activities
- Deliver projects on time, within budget, and to customer expectations
About You
- Degree qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Controls, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline
- Experience designing electrical or control systems
- Proficient with EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar schematic design software
- Hands-on experience with electrical system build, testing, fault finding, and commissioning
- Experience with PLC-based control hardware (e.g. Siemens, Allen-Bradley) or industrial instrumentation
- Good understanding of EMC principles and practical electrical design
- Knowledge of CE/UKCA compliance and electrical design standards
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Willingness to travel to customer sites across the UK (approximately 30-50%)
Desirable Skills
- Functional safety or safety instrumented systems (e.g. IEC 61508)
- ATEX or hazardous area design experience
- Basic mechanical design for control panels and enclosures
- National Instruments (NI) hardware or software experience
- PLC programming or modification
- 18th Edition qualification
- Experience with safety PLCs or SISTEMA
