Robert Walters
We are partnering with a Legal 500 ranked law firm to find an employment barrister or solicitor-advocate to join their growing In House Advocacy Unit in Birmingham. This is a rare opportunity for an advocate who wants to focus purely on tribunal work, without the burden of running their own caseload
The role
The successful Employment Advocate will undertake regular advocacy across the firm's three core sectors: commercial/private sector, health, and education, acting for a client base that includes household names alongside major NHS trusts and leading universities and colleges.
This is a pure advocacy role covering preliminary and final hearings in the Employment Tribunal, alongside drafting and advisory work. There is also a clear opportunity to help shape the Advocacy Unit's growth plans, including supporting the development of junior solicitors' advocacy skills.
About You
- Qualification as a barrister or solicitor-advocate, with 2 to 5 years' post-call/qualification experience
- Demonstrable Employment Tribunal advocacy experience
- A genuine enthusiasm for employment law
- Excellent drafting and presentational skills
- The ability to deliver commercially focused, high-quality advice
- Strong relationship-building skills with clients, colleagues and referrers
- Good time and diary management
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work well within a wider team in Birmingham
The team and Firm
The successful Employment Advocate will join a team of over 85 lawyers, supported by regular cross-office training and away days. The Advocacy Unit itself is relatively new and growing quickly, offering real scope for the right person to make an early and lasting impact. This firm is ranked among the top 50 UK law firms and has an excellent reputation for how it treats its people. Flexible working arrangements will be considered, and the firm is committed to supporting any workplace adjustments candidates may need.
