We are working with a welcoming and supportive school in Reading seeking a motivated and enthusiastic English Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills while making a meaningful difference to students' academic progress and confidence.
As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside experienced teachers, supporting students both in the classroom and through small-group and one-to-one interventions. Your role will help pupils develop their understanding of English while encouraging engagement, confidence and a love of learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students during English lessons through one-to-one and small-group interventions.
- Assist teachers with lesson delivery and effective classroom management.
- Help students understand key English concepts and complete classwork.
- Provide additional support for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and other learning needs.
- Encourage positive behaviour, participation and confidence within the classroom.
- Prepare learning resources and support differentiated learning activities.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A degree in English or a closely related subject.
- A genuine passion for education and supporting young people.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain ideas clearly and effectively.
- Patience, empathy and a proactive, positive approach.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a school team.
- Previous experience working with children or young people (desirable but not essential).
- The ability to commute to Reading.
