Exams Officer
Location: Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire
Hours: 37 hours per week, term time plus 2 weeks
Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: H8–H9 depending on experience (£35,163 – £42,500 FTE, including fringe)
Actual Salary: Approximately £31,155 – £37,656 per annum (pro rata, including fringe)
About the Role
We are seeking to appoint a highly organised and motivated Exams Officer to oversee the efficient and effective delivery of all internal and external examinations.
This is a pivotal role within the school, requiring excellent administration, communication, and coordination skills. You will work closely with staff, students, invigilators, and examination boards to ensure examination processes run smoothly and in full compliance with regulations.
You will also lead and support an Exams Assistant and a team of invigilators.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the administration of all internal and external examinations
- Act as the main point of contact with awarding bodies
- Coordinate exam timetables, entries, and results processes
- Ensure compliance with examination regulations and procedures
- Lead and manage invigilation staff
- Maintain accurate records and provide clear communication to stakeholders
About You
The successful candidate will:
- Be highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Have strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Demonstrate a proactive, “can do” attitude
- Remain calm and resilient under pressure
- Be flexible and able to manage competing priorities
Previous experience working in examinations within a school setting is desirable but not essential, as full training and support will be provided.
Working Pattern
This role is term time plus 2 weeks. However, for the right candidate, there is flexibility to offer a 38-week contract, allowing the additional weeks to be worked during term time outside of peak exam periods.
