Role: Family Solicitor
Location: Chesterfield, Derbyshire
Salary: £32,000 – £42,000
Contract: Full time, permanent, hybrid
CRA Consulting is delighted to be working in partnership with a well-established and highly respected regional law firm to recruit a Family Solicitor for its busy and growing Chesterfield office.
This opportunity would suit a Newly Qualified Solicitor or a solicitor with up to 2 years' post-qualification experience who is looking to develop their career within a supportive and collaborative Family Law team. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a varied caseload of privately funded family matters while benefiting from close supervision, mentoring, and excellent long-term progression prospects.
The Role
You will join an experienced Family department with a strong local reputation and an established client base. Working alongside senior solicitors and partners, you will assist with and gradually take ownership of a diverse caseload of family law matters.
The role offers excellent exposure across a range of work including:
- Divorce and separation proceedings
- Financial remedy matters
- Private children arrangements
- Cohabitation disputes
- Pre- and post-nuptial agreements
- Domestic abuse and injunction applications
- Separation and relationship breakdown advice
As your experience develops, you will be encouraged to manage your own caseload while continuing to receive support and technical guidance from experienced colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a caseload of family matters appropriate to your level of experience.
- Assisting senior fee earners on more complex cases.
- Conducting client meetings and taking instructions.
- Drafting legal documents, applications, witness statements, and correspondence.
- Liaising with clients, courts, barristers, and third parties.
- Attending hearings, conferences, and client appointments where required.
- Supporting business development and networking initiatives.
- Maintaining high standards of client care and file management.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
- Qualified Solicitor status (NQ – 2 PQE).
- Experience gained within a Family Law department during training or post-qualification.
- A genuine interest in developing a long-term career in Family Law.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent drafting and organisational abilities.
- A compassionate and professional approach to client care.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively as part of a team.
Applications from candidates due to qualify shortly, or those with substantial family law experience gained during their training contract, are also encouraged.
