Field Service Engineer – Heavy Plant & Construction Equipment
Scotland – Paisley, Edinburgh, Glasgow
Full-Time | Permanent
Salary: £40,000 – £42,000 + Overtime
A leading international machinery and equipment provider is looking to recruit an experienced Field Service Engineer to join its growing service team. Operating across the construction, material handling, recycling and transport sectors, the business has a long-established reputation for delivering high-quality equipment and aftersales support across the UK and internationally.
This field-based role will be covering South West London, areas inside the M25, and the South Coast region from the Horsham area. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering first-class customer service through the maintenance, servicing and repair of heavy construction plant and associated equipment.
Working Hours
- Monday – Wednesday: 8:30am – 4:30pm
- Thursday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
- Friday: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Overtime is paid at enhanced rates, including time and a half and double time where applicable.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain and repair heavy construction and plant equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment and technical knowledge
- Carry out breakdown repairs and routine maintenance efficiently and safely
- Identify additional service and repair opportunities while on customer sites
- Complete electronic job reports, timesheets and service documentation accurately and in real time
- Install software updates and support equipment optimisation
- Order and manage parts required for repairs
- Support customers with technical advice and maintain high service standards
- Attend manufacturer and product training courses when required
- Participate in overtime and call-out rota where necessary
Requirements
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Plant Maintenance, HGV, Agricultural Engineering or related discipline (ESSENTIAL)
- Experience servicing and repairing heavy plant, construction or agricultural equipment
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions and electrical systems
- Good understanding of modern diagnostic systems and computer-based service tools
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Able to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Skills
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Experience working in field-based service environments
