Finance Assistant

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join a busy finance team within a well-established charity based in Ilford. This part-time role offers an initial 3–6 month temporary contract with a strong possibility of becoming permanent and potentially increasing to full-time. The Finance Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the finance function, focusing on income processing, reconciliations, and transactional finance duties.
Day-to-day of the role:

Income & Banking:
- Accurately process and post income received across various streams such as donations, grants, and service income.
- Allocate income to the correct cost centres and funding streams.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Monitor incoming funds and ensure timely and accurate recording.
- Liaise with internal teams regarding income allocation queries.

Accounts Receivable & Credit Control:
- Raise and issue sales invoices in a timely manner.
- Maintain the sales ledger and support with credit control.
- Actively chase outstanding payments and manage debtor queries.
- Allocate incoming receipts to the correct invoices.

Accounts Payable:
- Process supplier invoices, ensuring correct coding and approval workflows.
- Assist with payment runs.
- Handle supplier queries efficiently.

General Finance Duties:
- Support month-end processes including journals and reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate financial records.
- Assist with audit requirements and reporting.
- Provide ad hoc finance and administrative support as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a Finance Assistant / Accounts Assistant role.
- Strong experience with income processing, posting income, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and receivable.
- Solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Confident using Excel and finance systems.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
Desirable:
- Experience within the charity / not-for-profit sector.
- Understanding of restricted vs unrestricted income.
- Experience with accounting packages such as Sage, Xero, or similar.
Additional Information:
- 3 days per week (flexible on which days).
- Initial 3–6 month temporary assignment.
- Potential to become permanent and increase to full-time hours.
- Immediate or short notice candidates highly desirable.
