Finance Manager

We are seeking an experienced Interim Finance Manager to join our Multi-Academy Trust during a period of transition and growth. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will provide high-quality financial insight, strategic support, and robust financial management across a portfolio of schools.
This is a key role supporting senior leaders, Headteachers, and operational teams to deliver strong financial governance and ensure resources are used effectively to improve educational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted adviser to school leaders, providing insightful financial analysis and challenge.
  • Support budget setting, forecasting, and medium-term financial planning across the Trust.
  • Monitor financial performance, identifying risks, opportunities, and recommending actions.
  • Lead on month-end reporting, variance analysis, and production of meaningful management information.
  • Strengthen financial controls, processes, and compliance across academies.
  • Work closely with school business managers to build financial capability and confidence.
  • Support year-end processes, audit preparation, and ESFA/Academies Handbook compliance.
  • Contribute to strategic projects including growth planning, funding optimisation, and cost-efficiency programmes.

About You

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or equivalent experience.
  • Proven finance business partnering experience, ideally within education, charities, MATs, or public sector.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Comfortable working at pace within a changing environment.
  • Knowledge of academies finance frameworks (ESFA, Academies Trust Handbook) is advantageous.
