Financial Controller
Salary: £60,000–£65,000 + Car Allowance (depending on experience)
Location:Essex – Easily accessible from Maldon, Burnham-on-Crouch, Wickford, Chelmsford and surrounding areas by car.
An established and highly respected Essex business is looking to appoint an experienced Financial Controller to join its senior management team.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a broad, hands-on role with overall responsibility for the finance function, leadership of the accounts team and providing financial support across the wider business.
This is far more than a traditional Financial Controller position. You'll play an active role in helping drive improvements across the business, working closely with senior management and becoming a key member of the management team.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of monthly management accounts
- Draft statutory accounts
- Budget preparation, monitoring and reporting
- Cashflow forecasting and management
- Gross margin analysis
- Fixed asset register
- Financial evaluation of projects
- Board reporting and attendance at Board meetings
- Liaison with external accountants, auditors, HMRC and banking partners
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Payroll, PAYE reconciliation and pension administration
- Authorising journals and payment runs
- Month-end and year-end close
- Banking and bank review meetings
- Cost management and financial reporting for the Managing Director
- Improving finance systems and processes
- Supporting wider commercial projects across the business
- Working closely with external business partners, including HR and IT providers
- Supporting stock reporting and operational forecasting
- Providing financial information and budget reporting to managers across the business
Team Management
You will have overall responsibility for the finance team, providing day-to-day support, leadership and guidance across the department.
About You
You will be a qualified accountant with strong Financial Controller experience and an excellent working knowledge of Sage.
You'll be commercially minded, organised and proactive, with the confidence to work closely with the Managing Director, Board and senior management team.
Whilst technical ability is important, personality and attitude are just as important.
