General Manager

Specsavers

Are you looking for the next step in your career? If so, our General Manager role could be just what you're looking for!

At Specsavers, we're passionate about delivering outstanding care to our customers and creating a workplace where our people can thrive.

If you're an experienced retail or commercial leader with a passion for developing people, driving business performance and delivering exceptional customer service, we're looking for a confident and commercially focused General Manager to lead our successful Glasgow Trongate Hub. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of Specsavers' leading businesses, working alongside an experienced leadership team committed to clinical excellence, outstanding customer experience and continued growth.

About the Role

As General Manager, you'll be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of our busy hub business while supporting a network of spoke stores. You'll inspire and develop high-performing teams, drive commercial success and create a positive, accountable and collaborative culture across the business.

This is a varied leadership role where no two days are the same. You'll balance strategic commercial decision-making with hands-on operational leadership, ensuring colleagues are engaged, customers receive an exceptional experience, and the business continues to perform at a high level.

The successful candidate will be primarily based at Specsavers Glasgow Trongate and will also support our spoke stores in: Airdrie, Barrhead, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld, Dumbarton, Glasgow Forge, Hamilton, Lanark, Largs, Paisley and Stirling and Byres Road.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced leader who can demonstrate:

  • A strong commercial mindset with a proven ability to drive business performance
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing high-performing teams
  • Outstanding people management and communication skills
  • The ability to analyse performance, identify opportunities and implement improvements
  • Confidence managing the operational demands of a fast-paced business
  • A resilient, adaptable leadership style with the ability to embrace change and inspire others
  • A genuine passion for delivering exceptional customer service

Experience

Previous optical, audiology or Specsavers experience is very welcomed, although not essential. We welcome applications from experienced leaders across retail, hospitality or other customer-focused environments who have a strong track record of commercial success and people leadership.

Candidates with previous Specsavers experience or an understanding of the Specsavers partnership model would have an advantage and may be able to transition into the role more quickly.

What You'll Receive

  • £40,000 annual salary + on-target earnings bonus
  • 30 days annual leave (including bank holidays)
  • 37.5-hour working week over 5 days
  • The opportunity to lead one of Specsavers' leading hub businesses
  • Support from an experienced leadership team
  • We will auto-enroll you into the pension scheme with an employer contribution when you contribute too
  • Specsavers Perks – a portal to a world of great everyday discounts and savings
  • WeCare – our employee support service to help you and your immediate family when you need it most
  • Complimentary subscription to the Headspace app
  • Eyecare and hearcare discounts for you and your family
  • Enhanced family leave and company sick pay

This is a role where you can make a real impact on colleagues, customers and business performance, so if you're an ambitious, commercially driven leader who enjoys developing people, delivering results and building high-performing teams, we'd love to hear from you.
