Geotechnical Design Engineer
Location: Bristol
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000
An award-winning engineering consultancy is seeking a Geotechnical Design Engineer to join its expanding Bristol office. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys the analytical and design aspects of geotechnics and is looking to work on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, residential, commercial and renewable energy projects across the UK.
You will join a highly experienced geotechnical team and play a key role in delivering innovative and cost-effective design solutions from feasibility through to construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertaking geotechnical analysis and design for a range of development and infrastructure projects
- Designing shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, slopes and earthworks
- Carrying out geotechnical calculations and numerical modelling
- Interpreting ground investigation data and laboratory test results
- Preparing Geotechnical Design Reports and Ground Investigation Interpretative Reports
- Providing technical input throughout project lifecycles from concept to detailed design
- Liaising with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams
- Assisting with project management, programme delivery and commercial performance
- Mentoring junior engineers and graduates where appropriate
Requirements:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline
- 3+ years of experience within a geotechnical consultancy environment
- Strong understanding of Eurocodes and geotechnical design principles
- Experience designing foundations, retaining structures and earthworks
- Proficiency with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, Slope/W, WALLAP, Oasys, Plaxis or similar
- Excellent technical reporting and communication skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or a related subject
- Working towards Chartership with ICE or a relevant professional body
- Experience delivering designs for highways, rail, energy or major development projects
