Join a forward-thinking College with ambitious plans to grow its Groundworks and Construction provision. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing a new academy, supporting apprenticeship delivery, and helping learners gain the practical skills needed to succeed on site.
As a Groundworks Lecturer, you'll primarily support Groundworks apprenticeships while also delivering intensive Groundworks bootcamps. You'll work with mainly 19+ learners, delivering practical and theory-based training across core groundworks skills including setting out, ground preparation, drainage, kerbing, slabbing, block paving, patios, services, site safety, and working safely around plant and underground services.
The ideal candidate will be occupationally competent in Groundworks and have strong hands-on site experience. You'll understand current site practice and be confident training learners to become work-ready. Previous teaching experience is not essential, as full teacher training can be provided. What matters most is practical industry knowledge, reliability, maturity, and a genuine passion for helping people develop.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Groundworker to transition into education, help build a new provision from the ground up, and potentially progress into an academy lead or management-style role as the department grows.
The role:
- Deliver Groundworks apprenticeships and Skills Bootcamps.
- Support the development of a new Groundworks Academy provision.
- Train learners to become site-ready for employers.
- Deliver practical and classroom-based sessions to mainly 19+ learners.
- Teach areas including setting out, drainage, kerbing, slabbing, block paving, patios, services, site safety, and ground preparation.
- Support learners with CSCS-related knowledge and health and safety awareness.
- Build employer relationships and support future provision growth.
- Work with group sizes of around 16 learners.
- Monday to Thursday, 8:30am – 5:00pm, with a 4:30pm finish on Fridays.
- Full teacher training and ongoing development provided.
- Long-term opportunity to help grow and shape the academy.
The person:
- Occupationally competent in Groundworks.
- Hands-on experience physically working as a Groundworker.
- Strong understanding of current site practice.
- Experience across areas such as drainage, kerbing, slabbing, block paving, ground preparation, services, and site safety.
- Knowledge of CAT scanning, abrasive wheels, shuttering, underground services, and working around plant would be highly beneficial.
- Plant operations knowledge advantageous.
- Groundworks NVQ, Civil Engineering qualification, or similar advantageous but not essential.
- Comfortable delivering health and safety and CSCS-related content.
- Hands-on, practical, reliable, and willing to work in all weathers.
- A strong team player with the right attitude, maturity, and commitment.
