Location: Within 20 miles of Newton Abbot

Rate: £16 per hour

Contract: Friday 31 July – 22 October (with opportunities for further work afterwards)

We are looking for an experienced and reliable Head Chef to lead our kitchen on a busy film catering production. This is an exciting opportunity for a confident chef who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys creating varied, high-quality meals each day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a small kitchen team of 3.
  • Plan and prepare daily menus.
  • Cook approximately 100 covers per day, including: Full cooked breakfast; Three freshly prepared lunch options (meat, fish, and vegan).
  • Produce a different lunch menu each day.
  • Cater for all dietary requirements and allergens.
  • Manage food ordering and stock control.
  • Maintain cleaning schedules and high kitchen hygiene standards.
  • Work effectively in an open kitchen, providing excellent communication and customer service.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef with a strong background in a variety of cuisines.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a small team.
  • Strong menu planning and organisational skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of food allergens and dietary requirements.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate preferred (minimum Level 1 considered).
  • Good standard of spoken English.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car or motorcycle.
  • Must be based within 20 miles of Newton Abbot.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday.
  • Typical hours: 5:00am – 4:00pm.
  • Flexibility is essential, as filming schedules can change at short notice.

Additional Information

  • Self-employed position.
  • Contract runs from 31 July to 22 October.
  • Further work may be available after the contract ends.
  • There is also the possibility of spending approximately 10 days working in Jersey during the contract.
