Full-time, 37 hours per week

Location: Any of the Arts Council of Wales offices (Cardiff, Colwyn Bay or Carmarthen) with Hybrid Working

About this role

As Head of Engagement & Community Development, you’ll provide strategic leadership for our community engagement work across Wales.

This is a senior, visible leadership role where you will drive our vision for inclusive participation—working to ensure that arts and culture are accessible, relevant, and meaningful to communities across Wales.

Working closely with the Deputy Director of Equalities & Partnerships, you’ll:

– Lead the development and delivery of strategic approaches to community engagement

– Oversee the Night Out scheme and wider community-based programmes

– Build and maintain strong partnerships across communities, local authorities, and the wider sector

– Lead and support a team

– Champion cultural democracy, ensuring communities are active participants and co-creators within the arts

– Use insight, data and community intelligence to shape strategy and improve access and participation

About you

We’re looking for an experienced and confident leader with a strong understanding of community engagement, cultural participation and partnership working.

In the role, you will:

– Bring senior-level experience of developing and delivering community-focused programmes

– Build trusted relationships across a wide range of stakeholders

– Lead teams with clarity, purpose and a commitment to inclusive practice

– Demonstrate strong strategic thinking, with the ability to translate ideas into delivery

– Be a visible and engaged presence across Wales, representing the organisation and connecting with communities
