Head of Maintenance & Infrastructure
Kent | Full-time (hybrid working) | up to £70k (depending on experience)

An excellent university is seeking an experienced Head of Maintenance & Infrastructure to lead the operational delivery of maintenance and engineering services across a large, complex estate.
The Role
You will take ownership of both planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient operation of all mechanical, electrical and building infrastructure. Leading multi-disciplinary teams, you will drive performance, compliance and value across the estate while supporting long-term asset strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the estate
- Ensure full statutory and regulatory compliance (H&S, engineering, building safety)
- Manage mechanical, electrical, fabric and energy engineering teams
- Oversee CAFM systems, PPM schedules and maintenance performance
- Control budgets (~£3.5m+) ensuring value for money and effective procurement
- Act as Responsible Person (e.g. L8, asbestos, PTW, SSoW) and Duty Holder for Gas
- Manage contracts, suppliers and service level agreements
- Drive continuous improvement, technical standards and maintenance strategy
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners
About You
- Strong leadership experience within Hard FM / Estates / Engineering environments
- Extensive knowledge of building services and compliance legislation
- Proven experience managing large estates and complex asset portfolios
- Skilled in budget management, CAFM systems and maintenance strategy
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering / Building Services
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer (CEng/IEng) or professional membership (CIBSE, IWFM, IET etc.)
- Health & Safety qualification (IOSH or equivalent)
