Kenneth Brian Associates are partnering with a leading refurbishment and fit-out contractor who are seeking an experienced Head of Health & Safety to lead H&S, fire safety, and temporary works governance across a complex project portfolio.
This is a senior leadership role with Board exposure and the authority to stop works where serious risk is identified. The successful candidate will provide strategic oversight while maintaining a strong visible presence across live construction sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the company’s ISO 45001 aligned H&S Management System
- Oversee CDM Principal Contractor duties and Temporary Works governance
- Lead fire safety compliance in line with legislation, JCOP, and insurer requirements
- Drive audits, assurance activities, incident investigations, and continuous improvement
- Work closely with operational teams across sites, promoting a proactive safety culture
- Challenge unsafe behaviours and commercial pressures where necessary
- Report on risk, compliance, and performance at senior leadership level
Requirements
- Level 6/7 qualification in Occupational Health & Safety
- CMIOSH or working towards Chartership
Strong knowledge of:
- CDM Regulations 2015
- Building Safety Act 2022
- Fire Safety legislation
- Temporary Works / BS 5975
- Experience within construction, ideally refurbishment or fit-out
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Comfortable being site-based regularly and engaging directly with project teams
