Head of People & Organisational Development

I am recruiting an experienced and strategic Head of People & Organisational Development to lead their people agenda and help shape a high-performing, inclusive and values-driven culture.

Reporting to the Director of People & Operations and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will play a key role in translating organisational strategy into effective people practices. You will lead HR and Organisational Development functions, ensuring the organisation has the culture, capability and workforce needed to achieve its objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic People Leadership

  • Support the development and delivery of the people and organisational development strategy.
  • Lead workforce planning, organisational design and culture initiatives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on complex people matters.
  • Ensure people practices are inclusive, fair and aligned to organisational values.

Organisational Development & Culture

  • Drive culture, engagement and inclusion initiatives.
  • Lead talent management, succession planning and leadership development programmes.
  • Support organisational change and transformation projects.
  • Champion a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing culture.

HR Operations

  • Lead the delivery of an efficient and responsive HR service.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management and policy development.
  • Manage job evaluation processes and reward frameworks.
  • Build positive relationships with employee representatives and trade unions where applicable.
  • Ensure HR systems, processes and reporting support effective decision-making. 

Recruitment, Retention & Talent

  • Develop innovative and inclusive attraction strategies.
  • Lead retention and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Create talent pipelines and succession plans.
  • Build partnerships with educational institutions and community organisations to support diverse talent pathways. 

Learning & Development

  • Develop and implement a learning and development framework.
  • Promote a culture of continuous professional development.
  • Oversee mandatory and role-specific training programmes. 

Employee Experience, Wellbeing & Inclusion

  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion across the organisation.
  • Use employee feedback and workforce data to drive improvements.
  • Ensure internal communications support engagement and a positive employee experience. 

About You:

Essential Qualifications

  • CIPD Level 7 qualified or equivalent senior HR experience supported by a management qualification. 

Essential Experience:

  • Significant experience leading HR and Organisational Development functions.
  • Proven success in workforce planning, organisational development and culture change.
  • Strong experience managing employee relations and HR operational services.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, safer recruitment and governance requirements.
  • Experience working with senior leadership teams and boards/trustees. 

Essential Skills:

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop teams.
  • Experience leading organisational change in a compassionate and inclusive way.
  • Ability to analyse workforce data and translate insights into action.
  • Strong knowledge of HR systems, policies and employment legislation.
