We’re looking for an experienced Compliance Manager (SHEQ) to join a leading waste processing operation in Horsham. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) systems, ensuring regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement across site operations.
The Role
As Compliance Manager, you’ll lead the development, implementation, and ongoing management of robust SHEQ frameworks. Working closely with operational teams and senior stakeholders, you’ll ensure the site operates safely, sustainably, and in full compliance with UK legislation and environmental permits.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage site-wide SHEQ systems aligned with legal and corporate standards
- Develop and maintain risk assessments and safe systems of work across operations
- Oversee incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis
- Drive emergency preparedness and response planning (e.g. fire, gas, environmental risks)
- Deliver SHEQ training, inductions, and toolbox talks
- Ensure compliance with Environmental Permits, Planning Conditions, and regulatory requirements
- Act as the primary contact for regulators and external auditors
- Monitor environmental performance (emissions, waste, water, odour)
- Lead audits, inspections, and sustainability initiatives
- Maintain ISO management systems () and provide reporting to leadership
About You
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation
- Experience managing environmental permits and regulator relationships
- Background in waste management, recycling, or similar environments (desirable)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proactive, self-motivated, and confident working independently
