Health & Safety Project Officer
Fixed-term to June 2028
My client is looking for a proactive, hands-on Health & Safety Project Officer to help drive a strong safety culture and ensure full HSE compliance across their operations.
You will be reporting to the EHST Manager and will play a vital role both on-site and at desk level—keeping their people safe, operations compliant, and their standards world-class
What you’ll be doing
Lead safety on the ground
- Carry out site inspections, risk assessments and audits across surface operations
- Develop and implement safe systems of work
- Work closely with contractors to ensure safety standards are embedded and maintained
Drive compliance and best practice
- Ensure adherence to UK HSE legislation
- Manage COSHH, fire safety, occupational health risks and environmental controls
- Review and continuously improve procedures and systems
Own incident management
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses
- Produce clear, accurate reports and support regulatory processes
- Turn insights into improvements that strengthen safety performance
Manage data & reporting
- Maintain accurate HSE records and statutory documentation
- Produce weekly and monthly reports
- Analyse and present data to internal and external stakeholders
Engage & influence
- Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and training
- Build strong relationships across teams, contractors and leadership
- Promote a positive, proactive safety culture
Support operations
- Assist with emergency planning and response
- Provide on-site HSE support across projects and activities
What we’re looking for
Essential
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent Level 3)
- 2+ years’ experience in health & safety (construction, industrial or extractive sectors)
- Strong knowledge of HSE legislation
- Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
Desirable
- NEBOSH Diploma
- IOSH membership
- Experience in UK mining
- Knowledge of HSE systems, audits and specialist risk areas (COSHH, HAVS, noise)

- Location: Redruth
- Hours: 37.5 hours, Monday–Friday (flexibility required occasionally)
