Interim Health & Safety Compliance Project Manager
4-Month Assignment | £300-£400 per day | Truro / Hybrid | Immediate Start
A large, multi-site organisation in Cornwall is urgently seeking an Interim Health & Safety Compliance Project Manager to lead sites across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
This is a high-impact role requiring deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to rapidly assess, stabilise and improve statutory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance baseline review – audit existing H&S records, validate statutory inspections, identify gaps and establish an auditable baseline
- Risk assessment & assurance – review compliance across sites, highlight high-risk issues, maintain risk registers, escalate concerns
- Regulatory compliance oversight – fire safety, asbestos, legionella, electrical, gas, lifting equipment, radon, contractor management
- High-risk issue management – lead investigations, develop mitigation plans, implement controls, track remedial actions
- Contractor coordination – specify inspections, coordinate specialists, verify certification, maintain audit trails
- Governance & reporting – daily updates, weekly executive reports, board assurance papers, compliance dashboards
- Audit & regulatory support – prepare evidence, support regulator interactions, ensure documentation withstands scrutiny
Essential Skills
- Demonstrable Health & Safety knowledge and skills
- Proven delivery of complex compliance programmes
- Experience in regulated environments (education, NHS, local government, housing, FM)
- Multi-site portfolio management
- Leading compliance recovery/improvement programmes
- Presenting to Boards, Trustees or Executive Leadership
Technical Knowledge Required
Strong working knowledge of:
- Health & Safety at Work Act
- MHSWR
- Fire Safety Order
- Asbestos Regulations
- COSHH
- Legionella / ACOP L8
- LOLER / PUWER
- Electricity at Work Regulations
- Ionising Radiations Regs (desirable)
- DfE Good Estate Management guidance (desirable)
Qualifications
- NEBOSH Diploma / NCRQ Diploma / NVQ Level 6
- CMIOSH preferred
- GradIOSH considered with substantial experience
- Relevant degree advantageous
Location & Working Pattern
- Truro / Hybrid
- Significant onsite presence required
- Travel across Cornwall & Isles of Scilly
- 4-month initial assignment
- Potential extension
- £300-£400 per day
- Immediate start / ASAP
