HGV Mechanic / HGV Technician
Location: Croydon / South London
Hours: Monday to Friday, optional overtime available
Contract: Permanent
This is AFR are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced HGV Mechanic / HGV Technician to join a growing commercial fleet operation.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants more ownership than a standard workshop role. Our client is bringing more vehicle maintenance in-house and is looking for a confident, self-managing technician who can help maintain and improve a mixed commercial fleet.
The Role
You will be responsible for servicing, maintenance, repairs, inspections, MOT preparation, defect management and keeping the fleet safe, compliant and operational.
You will work closely with transport, operations and compliance teams, with genuine scope to influence how the in-house workshop develops.
Key Duties
- Service, maintain and repair HGVs and specialist commercial vehicles
- Complete PMI inspections and MOT preparation
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults
- Manage vehicle defects and planned maintenance
- Maintain accurate compliance and maintenance records
- Liaise with suppliers and specialist contractors where needed
- Support workshop organisation and continuous improvement
What We’re Looking For
- NVQ Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, or equivalent
- Proven HGV / LGV maintenance experience
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience with PMIs and MOT preparation
- Good understanding of fleet compliance
- Able to work independently and manage your own workload
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable
- Class 1 or Class 2 licence
- Waste, refuse or specialist fleet experience
- Hydraulic / PTO experience
- CNG vehicle experience
- Welding or fabrication experience
- IRTEC accreditation
Package
- £60,000 – £70,000 DOE
- Optional overtime
