Housing Options Officer (Temporary Accommodation)
Location: Wembley (Fully Office-Based)
Rate: £21.41 PAYE / £28.19 Umbrella
Contract: Immediate start | Ongoing temporary assignment
Requirement: Basic DBS clearance
About the Role
We are recruiting for a Housing Options Officer to support households in temporary accommodation, helping them successfully move on to more settled and sustainable housing.
This is a fast-paced, frontline role where you will provide practical housing advice, tenancy support, and compliance management, ensuring all placements and offers meet legislative and suitability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide housing options advice to households in temporary accommodation, supporting move-on to private rented, intermediate, or social housing
- Manage expectations and guide residents based on their housing register priority and individual circumstances
- Work closely with lettings teams to monitor bidding activity and support residents in making informed housing choices
- Assess and issue temporary accommodation offers and suitability decisions in line with legislation
- Conduct suitability reviews, appeals, and investigations, including refusal cases
- Investigate domestic violence and fear of violence cases, ensuring appropriate safeguarding actions
- Work with accommodation providers to resolve complaints, tenancy breaches, and support issues
- Encourage compliance with tenancy/licence conditions and take action on ASB, misuse, or breaches
- Identify and investigate fraud, subletting, or abandoned properties, taking appropriate enforcement action
- Support tenancy audit programmes and promote effective use of temporary accommodation
- Help residents access employment, training, and benefits support to improve housing outcomes
About You
You will bring:
- Experience in housing options, homelessness, or temporary accommodation management
- Strong knowledge of housing legislation, homelessness duties, and suitability requirements
- Experience handling complex casework, reviews, and enforcement activity
- Ability to work empathetically with vulnerable households while maintaining firm decision-making
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Confidence managing a varied caseload in a busy local authority environment
