HSEQ Director

An established and growing infrastructure business is seeking an experienced HSEQ Director to join its senior leadership team and drive excellence across Health, Safety, Environment and Quality.

Operating across the utilities, power and infrastructure sectors, the organisation delivers critical projects throughout the UK and is entering an exciting phase of growth and investment.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a high-profile leadership position responsible for developing and implementing the Group's HSEQ strategy, driving cultural change, ensuring compliance and supporting operational excellence across multiple business units.

This role offers the opportunity to influence business-wide performance, shape strategic direction and play a key role in the continued success of a well-established organisation.

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and leading the HSEQ strategy.
  • Acting as the principal advisor to the Board and Executive Leadership Team on all HSEQ matters.
  • Driving a positive safety culture and embedding behavioural safety principles throughout the organisation.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, industry standards and client requirements.
  • Leading environmental and sustainability initiatives aligned with wider business objectives.
  • Overseeing integrated management systems, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Establishing and monitoring HSEQ performance metrics and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Building strong relationships with clients, regulatory bodies and key industry stakeholders.
  • Leading, mentoring and developing a high-performing HSEQ team.

About You

To be successful, you will bring:

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience operating at Director or Senior Head of HSEQ level.
  • Extensive experience within utilities, power, infrastructure, engineering or construction sectors.
  • Strong multi-utility experience, with particular expertise within power and electrical infrastructure environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of power distribution, transmission, ICP and utility network operations.
  • Demonstrable success in delivering behavioural safety and organisational culture change programmes.
  • Experience managing HSEQ functions within complex, multi-site operational businesses.
  • Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, environmental and quality legislation.
  • Experience engaging and influencing at Executive and Board level.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
  • Chartered IOSH status or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Relevant degree or professional qualification desirable.
  • Environmental qualifications such as IEMA advantageous.

Leadership Expectations

This is a visible and influential leadership position requiring regular engagement with operational teams, clients and senior stakeholders.

A strong office presence is considered essential, alongside regular travel to operational sites across the UK. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who enjoys building relationships, influencing performance and driving cultural change through direct engagement with the business.
