Interim Accountant – Children's Social Care

Are you an experienced Local Government Accountant with a strong background in Children's Social Care Finance?
We are partnering with a London Local Authority to recruit an Interim Accountant to join their high-performing Children's Services Finance Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who can hit the ground running, providing expert financial support, robust budget management and strategic business partnering across Children's Social Care services.
The Opportunity
Working closely with the Finance Manager and senior service leaders, you will play a key role in supporting financial planning, budget monitoring and forecasting activities, ensuring services are equipped with accurate financial information to support decision-making.
This is a hybrid role, requiring just one day per week in the office at Perceval House, offering excellent flexibility alongside a competitive daily rate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on budget monitoring and forecasting across Children's Social Care budgets.
- Provide high-quality financial business partnering support to operational managers and senior stakeholders.
- Produce accurate management information, financial reports and variance analysis.
- Identify financial risks, opportunities and potential efficiency savings.
- Support budget-setting and medium-term financial planning processes.
- Assist with year-end accounts and statutory financial reporting.
- Develop financial models, business cases and options appraisals.
- Ensure compliance with local authority financial regulations and governance requirements.
- Challenge and support service managers to improve financial performance and value for money.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience working within Children's Social Care Finance in a Local Authority environment.
- Previous experience in an Accountant, Management Accountant or Finance Business Partner role.
- Strong budget monitoring, forecasting and financial reporting experience.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience presenting financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience using financial management systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Ideally, you will hold one of the following professional qualifications:
- CIPFA
- ACCA
- CIMA
Applications from candidates with extensive relevant local government experience will also be considered.
