Legal Secretary

We are seeking a professional Legal Secretary to join the team of a firm specialising in Family and Criminal law. This role involves a full range of administrative and secretarial duties, ensuring efficient operation within a legal environment. The ideal candidate will have prior legal secretarial experience, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to high standards of client care.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Carry out receptionist duties, including welcoming clients and visitors, and directing them appropriately.
- Handle incoming telephone calls professionally.
- Prepare correspondence and documents through audio-typing and word processing.
- Manage filing systems according to the Quality Procedures Manual (QPM), including the opening, closing, storage, and retrieval of client files.
- Handle mail preparation and dispatch.
- Perform copying tasks and prepare the conference room for meetings.
- Make appointments, arrange meetings, and maintain up-to-date diaries for principals.
- Provide refreshments as needed and support other secretaries and guide junior or temporary staff.
- Maintain confidentiality of all firm and client documentation and information.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- GCSEs (C+ or above) including English, or equivalent qualifications.
- Typing speed of 60-80 words per minute.
- 3-5 years of experience in a legal secretarial role.
- Proficiency in IT and keyboard skills, especially in word processing software.
- Excellent English writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with computerised time and cost recording systems is preferable.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality.
