Librarian, Dudley Home Library Service: 18 hours per week
Based: Dudley Archives
GLL is looking for a Librarian to manage the Home Library Service Officer based at Dudley Archives. The Home Library Service in Dudley offers a diverse range of adult and children's books as well as providing stock and information to housebound residents, care homes and sheltered housing schemes. This role can be immensely rewarding. You can make a real difference to people’s lives by helping those who are unable to access the library service themselves. The home delivery service really is a lifeline.
What you need:
You’ll ideally come from a library background, but it’ll be your enthusiasm for helping others and devotion to customer care that makes you really stand out. You’ll have a passion for reading and promoting books, along with excellent people skills. It is essential that you hold a full UK driving license with no endorsements.
An enthusiastic and passionate manager, you will need to be very hands-on, therefore an excellent understanding of all library operations including budgetary control, stock development, people management and building management is essential. Naturally, you will have excellent ICT knowledge and the ability to identify the needs of the community around you whilst instilling excellent customer service standards in your team

What you will do
As the Manager, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the service as well as leading on strategic direction to expand its usage. You will oversee stock and undertake general administration including route planning, and safety and security of the Archives building. You will also build good relationships with local contacts and partnerships to promote and enhance the service and ensure it is an integral part of the community.
Have overall supervision and direction of all allocated staff within the service, to ensure the efficient and effective working to meet objectives and that the services provided meet the needs and preferences of existing and potential users.
Provide expert advice, guidance and support to staff to enable them to develop the necessary skills and abilities to deliver the service.
