Maintenance Manager

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Engineering Manager to join a well-established manufacturing business. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys balancing people management with practical engineering involvement on the factory floor.
You'll take ownership of the engineering function, leading a team of maintenance engineers while ensuring plant reliability, maximising equipment performance, and driving continuous improvement across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and develop a team of maintenance engineers.
- Provide coaching, mentoring and ongoing training to build team capability.
- Remain hands-on, supporting the engineering team with fault finding, maintenance and breakdowns where required.
- Provide engineering cover during holidays and sickness, including working shifts when necessary.
- Ensure all manufacturing equipment operates safely, efficiently and reliably to meet production targets.
- Develop, implement and manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and maintenance records.
- Analyse equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions to improve reliability.
- Manage the purchasing of engineering spare parts and consumables while maintaining effective stock control.
- Coordinate statutory inspections and ensure all engineering compliance requirements are met.
- Manage relationships with external contractors, engineering specialists and service providers.
- Oversee contractor activities on-site, ensuring safe systems of work and Permit to Work procedures are followed.
- Work closely with Production and Planning teams to schedule maintenance activities with minimal operational disruption.
- Identify and deliver continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime and improve manufacturing performance.
About You
We're looking for an experienced engineering professional who combines strong technical ability with confident leadership skills.
You'll ideally have:
- Previous experience leading an engineering or maintenance team within a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
- A hands-on approach with excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing planned preventative maintenance systems.
- Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation and engineering compliance.
- Experience managing contractors and external service providers.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across production, planning and operations.
- A continuous improvement mindset with the drive to improve plant performance and reliability.
