Management Accountant

Role Purpose:

The Management Accountant is responsible for producing accurate and timely financial information, supporting business decision-making, maintaining robust financial controls, and ensuring compliance with statutory and company reporting requirements across multiple group entities.

Main Duties:

  • Take full responsibility for allocated company accounts from Trial Balance through to monthly management accounts.
  • Assist the finance team in the preparation of monthly management accounts and reporting packs.
  • Produce variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior periods.
  • Support annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Process transactions accurately across multiple entities.
  • Maintain accurate control accounts.
  • Process sales and purchase ledgers when necessary.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards.
  • Prepare prepayments, accruals and month-end journals.
  • Process payroll journals and employee expense claims.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts.
  • Review and reconcile balance sheets monthly.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns.
  • Process and reconcile inter-company transactions.
  • Support statutory accounts preparation and external audit.
  • Develop and improve financial controls and reporting processes.
  • Liaise across departments to resolve queries.
  • Support the wider Finance team and provide cover where required.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the role.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP and Power Query (desirable).
  • AAT Level 4, part-qualified ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience.
  • Sage 200 or similar ERP/accounting system experience.
  • Strong knowledge of management accounting, VAT and month-end reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and reporting skills.

Desirable Experience:

  • 3–5 years' finance experience.
  • Experience preparing monthly management accounts.
  • Multi-entity accounting experience.
  • Balance sheet reconciliations and VAT compliance.
