Do you enjoy preparing statutory accounts, managing audits and ensuring financial compliance, but still want the variety of a management accounting role?

We're recruiting for a technically strong qualified accountant to join a highly respected organisation in Winchester. This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys owning statutory reporting and compliance activities while also contributing to management reporting, budgeting and financial planning.

Working closely with the Head of Finance, you'll take responsibility for statutory accounts preparation, external audit management, VAT compliance and financial controls across multiple entities, whilst supporting wider reporting and analysis requirements.

This role would suit a Financial Accountant, Technical Accountant or Management Accountant with strong statutory accounting experience who is looking for a broad and varied position.

Key Responsibilities

Statutory Reporting & Audit

• Lead the preparation of annual statutory accounts across multiple entities

• Manage the year-end audit process and act as the primary contact for external auditors

• Ensure compliance with Companies Act, Charity Act, VAT, Corporation Tax and Gift Aid requirements

• Prepare supporting schedules, reconciliations and audit documentation

• Review financial controls and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations

VAT & Financial Compliance

• Prepare and review VAT returns

• Monitor changes in VAT legislation and implement updates where required

• Support VAT recovery reviews and process improvements

• Ensure accurate balance sheet reconciliations and financial governance

Financial Reporting

• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports

• Complete month-end activities including journals, accruals and prepayments

• Produce variance analysis and financial commentary

• Support cash flow reporting and forecasting activities

• Assist with reporting for senior leadership and governing bodies

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Support annual budget preparation

• Produce rolling forecasts and financial projections

• Provide financial modelling and scenario analysis

• Monitor capital expenditure and financial performance against budget

About You

We're looking for a qualified accountant with strong technical accounting expertise and a passion for financial reporting and compliance.

You'll ideally have:

• ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualification

• Significant experience preparing statutory accounts

• Experience managing external audits

• Strong understanding of financial controls and compliance

• VAT knowledge and regulatory reporting experience

• Experience producing management accounts and financial reporting

• Strong Excel skills and systems experience

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
