The Managing Director is responsible for the overall strategic direction, leadership, and operational management of the organisation across global markets. The MD ensures the company achieves its financial and growth objectives while maintaining its values, reputation, and compliance with international standards. This role requires visionary leadership, cross-cultural competence, and the ability to navigate complex global environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement the company’s global strategy in alignment with the Board’s vision.
- Identify and pursue growth opportunities in existing and emerging markets.
- Lead long-term planning and innovation initiatives.
Stakeholder and Next Generation Engagement
- Represent the company to investors, regulators, partners, and the public.
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including customers, suppliers, and governments.
- Communicate effectively with the Board and provide regular updates on performance and strategy.
- Foster next-generation engagement and preparedness through structured education, mentorship, and participation in investment and governance activities to support long-term stewardship and continuity.
Investments
- Review the strategic Asset Allocation and execute the investment strategy for a diversified portfolio of liquid and private market investments via a combination of external managers and direct investments across both public and private markets.
- Oversee and optimise portfolio construction, asset allocation, and risk-adjusted returns in line with the organisation's objectives and risk appetite.
- Manage and optimise the direct private equity investments, primarily within manufacturing-focused businesses.
- Partner with portfolio company boards and management teams to drive operational improvements, growth initiatives, and value creation strategies.
- Monitor financial, operational, and strategic performance of portfolio companies and recommend corrective actions where required.
- Lead the preparation and delivery of consolidated investment reporting across all asset classes, providing comprehensive analysis of portfolio performance, risk exposures, liquidity, valuation movements, and value creation initiatives to support strategic decision-making by the Board, Investment Committee, and Executive stakeholders.
Operational Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day operations across all regions and business units.
- Ensure operational efficiency, scalability, and alignment with strategic goals.
- Implement systems and processes that support global performance and compliance.
Financial Management
- Drive financial performance, profitability, and shareholder value.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and capital allocation.
- Ensure robust financial controls and risk management practices.
Global Team Leadership
- Build and lead a high-performing executive team across geographies.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organisation.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure adherence to international laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
- Promote strong corporate governance and transparency.
- Lead crisis management and business continuity planning.
