Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services

Role Overview

You'll play a key role in design, coordination, and technical delivery while contributing to best practice and supporting junior team members.

  • Lead the design, planning, and delivery of mechanical and electrical engineering projects.
  • Produce and review technical drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Conduct site visits and surveys to support design development.
  • Coordinate project activities, resources, and programme milestones.
  • Prepare high-quality documentation, reports, and technical records.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards, including RAMS.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Apply and develop expertise in ASHP, GSHP, and energy-efficient systems.
  • Attend client meetings and provide technical input.
  • Support continuous improvement and mentor junior colleagues.
  • Perform detailed HVAC calculations (heat loss/gain, ventilation, system sizing).
  • Design HVAC systems including ductwork, pipework, plant rooms, and distribution networks.
  • Ensure compliance with CIBSE, Building Regulations, BS, and IET Wiring Regulations.
  • Undertake mechanical and electrical load calculations (heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, distribution).

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or similar.
  • Strong interest in building services and sustainable energy solutions.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD (Revit desirable).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
  • Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.
