Mechanical Engineer (Factory Maintenance)
Role Purpose
To provide expert mechanical maintenance support across a high-volume production facility, ensuring machinery reliability, minimising downtime, and contributing to ongoing engineering improvements. This is a hands-on role suited to an engineer who enjoys problem-solving, precision work, and being actively involved in the day-to-day running of a busy manufacturing site.
Core Responsibilities
- Conduct planned, reactive, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of mechanical equipment
- Diagnose mechanical faults quickly and effectively, implementing robust long-term solutions
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, contributing engineering insight to process optimisation
- Maintain and repair steam systems, compressors, pumps, valves, conveyors, and weighing systems
- Produce, modify, and repair components using workshop machinery and fabrication tools
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with regulatory and internal standards
- Collaborate with production teams to reduce downtime and enhance operational performance
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and contribute to engineering planning
Required Qualifications & Experience
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline, or substantial proven experience
- Strong background infast-paced, high-pressure manufacturing environments
- 17th Edition IET Electrical Regulations qualification
- Demonstrable experience working with:
- Steam boilers and associated systems
- Compressors, pumps, valves
- Conveyor systems and weighing equipment
- Advanced workshop capability, including:
- Turning, milling, drilling, tapping, helicoiling
- Pipefitting and plumbing
- Welding, fabrication, cutting, folding, and forming various materials
- Proven track record of delivering engineering improvements within a production setting
- Strong practical mindset with a proactive, solutions-focused approach

- Ability to work independently and prioritise effectively
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative working style
- A genuine interest in improving manufacturing processes and equipment performance
- Resides ideally within a 15 mile radius of the factory for effective response times
