Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (Night Shift)

Location: Lancashire – Burnley Area
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time (38 hours per week)
Shift: Monday to Thursday, 10:00pm – 7:30am
Salary: £24.88 per hour (including night shift allowance) – approximately £49,000 per annum

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established, market-leading manufacturing business for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their night shift maintenance team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a financially secure manufacturer with a strong reputation for investing in its people, equipment and continuous improvement. Working a permanent four-night week, you'll play a key role in ensuring production equipment operates safely, efficiently and reliably.

The Role

As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving a wide range of manufacturing equipment and site machinery. You'll work closely with production teams to minimise downtime, carry out planned maintenance and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out mechanical fault finding and repairs on production machinery.
  • Performing planned and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Responding quickly to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
  • Diagnosing faults and implementing effective long-term solutions.
  • Supporting machinery installations, upgrades and improvement projects.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with health & safety procedures and company standards.
  • Working collaboratively with production and engineering teams.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives.

About You

We're looking for someone with a strong mechanical maintenance background within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

You'll ideally have:

  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification (essential).
  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with planned and preventative maintenance systems.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and use measuring equipment.
  • Basic electrical knowledge (multi-skilled engineers are highly desirable).
  • Experience of CNC machinery, conventional machine tools or industrial plant.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, AC drives or servo drives would be advantageous.
  • A proactive approach with excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
