About the Role

Newcastle City Council are looking for a qualified Social Worker to join their Older People's Dementia Team. In this role, you will provide high-quality, person-centered support to individuals living with dementia, as well as their families and carers.

You will be at the forefront of navigating complex situations, promoting independence and ensuring that our residents can live safely with dignity in the community they love.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out comprehensive statutory assessments under the Care Act 2014, focusing on individual strengths and wellbeing.

  • Undertake Mental Capacity Assessments and lead on Best Interests decisions, navigating complex legal frameworks with confidence.

  • Act as a lead investigator or support agent in safeguarding adults enquiries, ensuring vulnerable individuals are protected from abuse or neglect.

  • Partner closely with NHS colleagues, memory clinics, community health teams, and voluntary sectors to provide seamless, integrated care.

  • Form trusting relationships with service users and their families, helping them navigate the progressive nature of dementia with empathy and clarity.

What They Are Looking For

  • Qualifications: A degree in Social Work (BA, BSc, DipSW, CQSW) and active registration with Social Work England.

  • Experience: Previous experience working within adult social care, ideally with older people or individuals living with cognitive impairments.

  • Knowledge: A robust understanding of relevant legislation, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Mental Health Act.

  • Skills: Strong risk assessment abilities, excellent organisational skills and a knack for managing complex, emotionally charged caseloads with a calm approach.
