LGS Vision Recruitment are supporting a forward-thinking growing firm of accountants who are based in the City of London with a Outsourcing Assistant position.
Our outsourcing team acts as the day-to-day finance function for a portfolio of clients effectively, an extension of their internal team. As an Assistant Accountant you’ll keep their books accurate and up to date, support the month end close, and be a friendly, dependable point of contact whenever they need something.
It’s a varied role with real client exposure. You’ll juggle several clients at once, work closely with a supportive team, and have the chance to develop your technical skills alongside your studies.
Responsibilities:
Transaction Processing and Bank Reconciliations
- Accurately process financial transactions including sales invoices, purchase invoices, receipts and payments within client accounting systems.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations across multiple client accounts to ensure financial records align with bank statements.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies or missing transactions promptly.
Ledger Maintenance
- Maintain and update purchase, sales and nominal ledgers to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data.
- Ensure transactions are correctly coded and allocated to the appropriate accounts.
- Help maintain clean, well-organised accounting records for each client.
Month-End Close and Reconciliations
- Assist with the monthly close process across the client portfolio.
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring supporting schedules are accurate and up to date.
- Reconcile key control accounts — bank, VAT, payroll, prepayments and accruals — where required.
- Support the preparation of monthly management information by ensuring financial records are complete and accurate.
- Identify and investigate unusual balances or variances and escalate where appropriate.
Management Accounts
- Prepare and review monthly and quarterly management accounts, ensuring schedules, accruals, prepayments and journals are complete and supportable.
- Conduct variance analysis (vs. budget, prior period and forecast) and write clear, commercial commentary tailored to each client.
- Use the management accounts as a platform for advisory conversations — surfacing trends, risks and opportunities the client should act on.
Client Finance Function Support
- Managing client finance inboxes and monitoring incoming financial communications.
- Responding to queries from suppliers, staff and other client stakeholders.
- Processing incoming invoices, receipts and payment requests.
- Communicating with clients to request missing information or clarify financial transactions.
- Monitoring outstanding items and following up on missing documentation or approvals.
- Helping clients keep their financial records accurate and up to date.
Skills & Experience:
Experience and Qualifications
- Previous experience in a bookkeeping, assistant accountant or finance assistant role – ideally within an accountancy practice or outsourced finance environment.
- Experience supporting multiple clients or entities at the same time is desirable.
- Studying towards (or holding) an accounting qualification such as AAT or equivalent is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar.
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas, data organisation and reconciliation tasks.
- Familiarity with VAT processes, bank reconciliations and ledger maintenance.
- Experience with expense management systems, receipt-processing tools or document-management platforms is a bonus.
Organisation and Attention to Detail
- Strong attention to detail and pride in keeping financial records accurate.
- A knack for spotting discrepancies and resolving them efficiently.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple client deadlines and priorities at once.
Package:
- Starting Salary £25,000 – £35,000
- 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays
