Description
- End-to-end ownership of the UK payroll, ensuring accurate and timely monthly processing
- Manage all payroll activities including starters, leavers, salary changes, and manual adjustments
- Submit RTI filings and ensure full compliance with HMRC and UK payroll legislation
- Administer statutory payments (SSP, SMP, etc.) and oversee all payroll reporting (P45s, P60s)
- Own payroll reconciliations, including balance sheet control and payroll journals
- Ensure accurate posting of payroll costs into the General Ledger
- Manage pensions, including auto-enrolment, contributions, and governance reporting
- Oversee benefits and allowances, ensuring compliance with P11D and benefits-in-kind requirements
- Process expenses through payroll and ensure accurate reconciliation
- Act as the primary point of contact for payroll queries, resolving complex issues efficiently
- Build strong relationships with HR and Finance, ensuring accurate and timely data submissions
- Challenge and influence stakeholders to meet payroll deadlines and maintain data integrity
- Lead and develop the payroll team, providing coaching, support, and performance management
Profile
The Successful candidate:
- Proven experience operating at Payroll Manager within a high-volume environment
- Strong technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including RTI, PAYE, and pensions
- Demonstrable experience managing end-to-end, in-house payroll processes
- Prior line management experience, with the ability to lead, develop, and support a team
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
- Confident stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with HR and Finance
- Diplomatic yet assertive approach, able to challenge and influence where required
- Strong analytical skills, including payroll reconciliations and financial controls
- Comfortable working in a hands-on role within a process-driven environment
- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
Job Offer
