Join a leading consultancy delivering complex transformation programmes across the UK public sector. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the governance and successful delivery of a high-profile Operational Model Programme within Central Government.

Role Overview

  • Location: Hybrid, Central London (2 days per week on site)
  • Package: 6-Month Initial Contract with scope for extension
  • Day Rate: £500- £550 per day Inside IR35
  • Industry: Central Government

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the PMO function across a large-scale Operational Model transformation programme.
  • Establish and maintain programme governance, standards, controls, and best practices.
  • Oversee integrated programme planning, ensuring milestones, dependencies, risks, issues, assumptions, and decisions are effectively managed.
  • Produce high-quality reporting, dashboards, and executive-level management information for senior stakeholders.
  • Coordinate governance meetings, steering committees, and programme boards, ensuring clear reporting and decision-making.
  • Work closely with multiple workstream leads to keep delivery aligned with programme objectives.
  • Monitor programme performance, highlighting risks, dependencies, and opportunities to improve delivery.
  • Manage change control processes and ensure programme documentation remains accurate and well governed.
  • Promote consistent project management disciplines across the wider programme.
  • Support financial tracking, resource planning, and programme assurance activities.
  • Build strong relationships with client stakeholders, delivery teams, and consultancy leadership.
  • Continuously improve PMO processes to enhance programme performance and delivery quality.

Main Skills Needed

  • Proven experience leading on the redesign of a Target Operating Model or existing Operating Model within UK Central Government is essential.
  • Background in PMO duties including project governance, budget control, resource allocation and further.
  • Strong knowledge of programme governance, planning, reporting, RAID management, dependency management, and delivery assurance.
  • Experience coordinating complex, multi-workstream programmes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage confidently at senior leadership level.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and analytical capabilities.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project or equivalent planning tools.
  • Eligibility to obtain BPSS security clearance.
  • Experience within consultancy environments delivering public sector programmes (desirable).
  • Knowledge of government transformation frameworks and methodologies (desirable).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project Online, Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar portfolio management tools.
  • Relevant PMO or project delivery qualifications such as P3O, MSP, PRINCE2, APM, or PMP are advantageous.
