About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Policy Writer to support the review and redevelopment of the Adult Social Care Charging Policy for a local authority in Leicestershire.
This role will focus on updating and rewriting the existing policy (implemented April 2024) in line with recent legislative and regulatory changes under the Care Act 2014 and associated guidance.
You will play a key role in delivering a clear, modern, and accessible policy, ensuring it reflects current requirements while improving usability through effective structure and the use of external government resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and rewrite the current Adult Social Care Charging Policy to reflect recent changes in legislation and guidance
- Conduct detailed research into applicable laws, regulations, and best practices
- Benchmark against other County Council policies to produce a more streamlined and effective document
- Incorporate external links to relevant government guidance to ensure long-term accuracy and usability
- Produce a summary document highlighting key policy changes for quick reference
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, including finance, operational leads, and legal teams
- Ensure all content is written in plain English, accessible to both the public and staff
- Support the implementation phase by collaborating with service leads
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in policy writing, ideally within the public sector or local government
- Strong understanding of Adult Social Care legislation, particularly the Care Act 2014
- Excellent research and analytical skills
- Ability to translate complex legislation into clear, practical guidance
- Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills
- Exceptional written communication and attention to detail
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with or developing charging policies within Adult Social Care
- Knowledge of local authority frameworks and governance structures
- Familiarity with policy accessibility standards and plain English principles
Working Arrangements
- Based at County Hall, Glenfield (Leicester)
- Collaborative role working closely with internal policy and service leads
