Principal Scientist – Histopathology
Location – Newcastle (On-site position)
Sector – Diagnostics
Salary – £50,000-£60,000 (Dependent on experience)
Our client is a global Leader in health diagnostic tools and services, specialising in providing easy-to-use diagnostics to improve patients’ lives.
They are now seeking an experienced Principal Scientist to join the company and provide expertise on technical aspects of product development to drive current and future technologies to market.
The role:
As part of an established R&D team, the Principal Scientist role is needed to provide expertise in assay design across multiple R&D projects.
The successful applicant will be required to manage project delivery, working cross-departmentally and applying a problem-solving mindset to ensure successful project outcomes.
Alongside practical capabilities in interpretation and scoring of Immunohistochemistry slides, the role requires a strong commercial outlook towards future strategy and system development
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide expert interpretation and scoring of IHC slides.
- Give clear technical feedback to R&D teams during assay and product development.
- Bring strategic input into project direction and market/customer relevance.
- Mentor, train and support junior scientists, particularly around scoring and slide interpretation.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, including R&D, Quality, Regulatory and Medical Scientific Affairs.
Suitable Applicants:
Applicants will need to demonstrate both relevant industry experience and a high level of practical competency. Required experience includes:
- Strong hands-on immunohistochemistry experience, particularly IHC slide scoring and interpretation.
- Industry experience within assay development, product development, antibody development, diagnostics, medical devices or a regulated development environment.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as ISO standards, IVDR, FDA and BSI.
- Prior experience operating at Principal Scientist level, bringing strategic oversight, wider market awareness and technical direction.
- Strong documentation, process adherence and ability to work in a development-led rather than purely research-led lab environment.
Experience with the following would also be advantageous:
- Digital pathology experience.
- Exposure to AI algorithms within digital pathology.
- Experience with HALO or similar digital pathology/image analysis software.
