Reed is collaborating with a leading independent accountancy firm to recruit a Private Client Tax Manager or Senior Manager for their St Albans office. This role is an excellent opportunity for professionals with a background in private client tax to manage compliance and advisory duties for a portfolio of high net worth individuals, including sole traders and partnerships.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Manage all aspects of income tax, including National Insurance and capital gains tax.
- Review Self-Assessment tax returns prepared by staff, ensuring accuracy before client approval and electronic filing.
- Engage directly with clients through emails, telephone calls, and face-to-face meetings to discuss various tax matters such as inheritance tax, income tax, and capital gains tax.
- Assist in delivering advisory work, including preparing reports on matters like IHT planning, pension planning, residence, UK trusts, and business structures.
- Prepare for and attend meetings with both existing and potential new clients, setting budgets for follow-up work and ensuring timely completion within budget.
- Handle correspondence with HMRC, including s9A enquiries and disclosures under the digital disclosure facility.
- Oversee the collection of information needed for tax return preparation, liaising with other professionals and clients.
- Manage routine correspondence and prioritise tasks to meet HMRC deadlines and maintain high standards of client care.
- Conduct quarterly billing for clients, manage reserves, and keep partners updated on billing concerns.
- Monitor personal time budgets and chargeability.
- Contribute to internal departmental management meetings and engage in networking events for business development.
- Support the development of team members, as evidenced by feedback.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- CTA qualification is essential.
- For Senior Manager: Minimum of 5 years’ private client tax experience.
- For Manager: Minimum of 2 years’ private client tax experience.
- Excellent organisational skills to manage workloads and meet deadlines independently.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel. Training will be provided for any AI software used.
- Effective people management and commercial awareness.
