We are recruiting on behalf of a leading global manufacturer of safety and protection solutions, supplying innovative products to the logistics, warehousing, retail, and industrial sectors. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on Product Development Engineer to join a growing engineering team, taking ownership of projects from concept through to production and installation.
The successful candidate will be a practical and creative engineer with strong mechanical design experience, a passion for problem-solving, and the ability to develop products that deliver real-world performance and value. This role offers the opportunity to work across the full product development lifecycle, collaborating with customers, suppliers, manufacturing teams, and commercial stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities for a Product Development Engineer:
- Design, develop, and launch innovative products from concept through to production release.
- Create and develop 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials using SolidWorks.
- Build, assemble, modify, and evaluate prototypes, carrying out practical testing and validation activities.
- Improve existing products through cost reduction initiatives, enhanced manufacturability, and customer-led innovation.
- Support product installations, testing, and troubleshooting at customer sites, supplier facilities, and test locations.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, sales, and operations teams to deliver production-ready solutions.
- Provide technical support for customer projects, product proposals, and business development activities.
- Manage multiple engineering projects, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines and adapting to evolving requirements.
- Travel within the UK and internationally when required to support installations, customer meetings, and supplier visits.
Key Skills for a Product Development Engineer:
- Degree, HNC, HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong mechanical design and product development experience with advanced SolidWorks proficiency.
- Good understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes including sheet metal, machining, welded assemblies, and plastics.
- Practical, hands-on engineering approach with experience building prototypes, conducting testing, and solving real-world engineering challenges.
- Ability to balance engineering quality, commercial considerations, manufacturability, and project deadlines.
- Strong project ownership skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Adaptable and self-motivated with a proactive attitude and willingness to contribute across all aspects of product development.
