Project Engineer – Fare Collection / Ticketing Systems

Our client is a leading global provider of advanced integrated technology in mobility for the public transport sector. They develop, manufacture, distribute and service equipment for some of the largest transit operators in the world, with a long-standing tradition of innovation, engineering excellence and long-term customer partnerships.

They now require an experienced Project Engineer to take a lead technical role in the delivery, installation and commissioning of hardware and software solutions across major UK transport projects.

THE ROLE

  • You will manage customer relationships on a day-to-day technical level, ensuring high levels of satisfaction throughout project delivery.
  • Carry out pilot installations and commissioning of hardware and software solutions on customer sites.
  • Review factory production and software development schedules, coordinating deliveries into the UK and out to site.
  • Establish, lead and supervise temporary teams of internal engineers and external sub-contractors, ensuring all parties are adequately trained and briefed.
  • Take responsibility for acceptance testing, obtaining formal written customer sign-off of installed equipment.
  • Ensure installation teams comply with all site access and Health & Safety policies, producing method statements and completing supporting paperwork to a high standard.
  • Task and direct all engineering resources assigned to a given project.
  • Support Project Managers and the Implementation Team with schedule status, cost control, risk management and resolution of technical issues, providing clear written reports.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, customer representatives, third-party suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Analyse and troubleshoot complex hardware, software and IT issues, exercising sound judgement and initiative, and escalating appropriately when required.
  • Produce internal technical documentation and clear, concise project reports.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate technical and project risks, ensuring early escalation where necessary.

THE INDIVIDUAL

  • You will have a “hands-on” engineering background, ideally gained within Fare Collection, Ticketing, Transport Technology or perhaps allied mobility sectors such as Parking, Access Control.
  • Proven experience of on-site installation, commissioning and acceptance testing of integrated hardware and software systems.
  • Be comfortable leading mixed teams of in-house engineers and sub-contractors on customer sites.
  • You will have a sound understanding of Health & Safety requirements, including the production of method statements and RAMS.
  • Be a confident communicator, able to liaise credibly with customers, internal stakeholders and overseas colleagues at all levels.
  • You will have strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills across hardware, software and IT/networking.
  • Be well-organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities and produce clear written reports.
  • Have a Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK, with overnight stays as required.
  • Full product training will be provided.
