Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Refuse Collector/Loader to join our waste management team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting and loading refuse and recyclable materials from designated locations, ensuring efficient waste collection services. This role requires physical stamina, attention to safety, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to community cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
Duties
- Operate refuse collection vehicle safely and efficiently during scheduled routes
- Collect waste and recyclable materials from residential, commercial, or industrial sites
- Load refuse into the vehicle using manual handling techniques or mechanical aids
- Ensure all collected waste is securely contained and properly disposed of at designated facilities
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and report any maintenance issues promptly
- Follow health and safety regulations at all times to prevent accidents or injuries
- Assist with cleaning and maintaining equipment and work areas to uphold hygiene standards
- Maintain accurate records of collections and route completion times
Requirements
- Previous experience or knowledge of mechanical systems is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely on a daily basis
- Good physical fitness with stamina to work outdoors for extended periods
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Valid driving licence is preferred but not mandatory; a clean driving record is beneficial
- Flexibility to work early mornings, with potential for overtime depending on workload
