Robotics Technician

The Opportunity
We're working with an exciting and fast-growing robotics company that is developing advanced autonomous systems for real-world industrial applications.
As the business continues to expand, they are looking to appoint a Robotics Technician to support the assembly, maintenance, testing and operation of cutting-edge robotic platforms.

The Role
As a Robotics Technician, you'll play a vital role in supporting robotics development activities, workshop operations and rapid prototyping projects.
You'll work closely with robotics, mechanical, electrical and software engineers to ensure hardware systems, tools and equipment are always available and operating efficiently.
Unlike many technician positions, this role offers direct involvement with advanced robotic systems, prototype development and real-world engineering challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Robot Assembly & Maintenance
- Assemble, integrate and repair robotic hardware and subsystems
- Support the build of new development and prototype systems
- Perform hardware upgrades and modifications
- Diagnose and resolve hardware issues
- Prepare robotic systems for demonstrations, customer visits and deployments
- Work closely with engineering teams to minimise downtime
Workshop Operations
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the workshop and prototyping environment
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot 3D printing equipment
- Maintain workshop tools, equipment and consumables
- Procure and commission new workshop equipment as required
- Ensure workspaces remain organised, safe and efficient
- Support engineers by maintaining a productive development environment
Prototype Development & Hardware Coordination
- Maintain inventory of prototype and development components
- Coordinate purchasing of engineering parts, tools and consumables
- Track deliveries and ensure parts are available when required
- Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and component records
- Prepare hardware kits for engineering projects and development builds
- Monitor stock levels and support inventory management processes
Test Rigs & Experimental Environments
- Build prototype fixtures, structures and test rigs
- Construct workstations and experimental environments for testing
- Support rapid prototyping activities across multiple engineering teams
- Assist with creating physical environments for robot evaluation and demonstrations
Requirements
- Experience with electronics and hardware assemblies
- Strong practical workshop and fabrication skills
- Experience operating and maintaining 3D printers
- Experience building or testing hardware prototypes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Experience managing inventory, components and workshop resources
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks
Desirable Experience
- Robotics, automation or mechatronics systems
- Rapid prototyping methods and fabrication techniques
- Aluminium extrusion systems
- Familiarity with CAD models and engineering drawings
- Motors, sensors, actuators or embedded systems
- Machine shop equipment
- Workshop safety training or certification
