Protocol Education are recruiting for an experienced and committed Safeguarding Officer to join a secondary school in Stockton-on-Tees from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for a safeguarding professional who is passionate about protecting children, promoting student welfare, and ensuring that every young person receives the support they need to succeed.
The Role
As Safeguarding Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting the school's safeguarding and pastoral provision by:
- Acting as a key point of contact for safeguarding concerns and referrals.
- Supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in managing safeguarding cases.
- Maintaining accurate, confidential safeguarding records and documentation.
- Liaising with external agencies, social care teams, and other professionals.
- Monitoring attendance, behaviour and welfare concerns to identify vulnerable students.
- Supporting students and families experiencing barriers to education or wellbeing.
- Contributing to safeguarding training and awareness across the school.
- Ensuring safeguarding procedures are implemented in line with statutory guidance and school policies.
- Promoting a culture of vigilance, welfare and student safety throughout the school community.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working within safeguarding, pastoral, attendance, family support or welfare roles.
- Possesses a strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
- Has experience working with children, young people and families.
- Demonstrates excellent communication, record-keeping and organisational skills.
- Can build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Is resilient, empathetic and able to manage sensitive situations effectively.
- Has experience liaising with external agencies and multi-agency teams.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
