Job Title: Science Technician (Term time only)
Location: Ashford
Salary: £22,945 per annum (This is the pro rata salary)
We are looking for a reliable, organised and experienced Science Technician to join a busy secondary school on a term-time only contract. The successful candidate will support the delivery of high-quality practical science lessons, maintain laboratory equipment and resources, and ensure a safe, well-prepared environment for staff and students.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up materials, apparatus and demonstrations for Biology and mixed science lessons.
- Maintain and manage biology specific resources, reagents and consumables, ensuring safe storage and accurate stock control.
- Assist teaching staff with practical tasks, classroom demonstrations and student practical work.
- Carry out regular checks, calibration and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment and report faults for repair.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, update risk assessments and follow safe disposal procedures for biological materials and chemicals.
- Support practical assessment preparation and assist in supervision during practical sessions when required.
- Keep accurate records, prepare orders and maintain clean, organised laboratory spaces.
Essential skills and experience:
- Term time only availability.
- Strong background in Biological Sciences, with demonstrable knowledge of biology concepts, lab procedures and specimen handling.
- Previous experience working in schools, secondary school science departments or laboratory environments, with experience supporting practical lessons and working with pupils.
- Good understanding of health and safety in school laboratories, including COSHH and safe disposal procedures.
