Role Overview
We are seeking a confident and organised Cover Supervisor to join our school in Penrith, Cumbria. The successful candidate will supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring pupils remain on task with the work set and maintaining a positive learning environment.
This is an ideal role for someone considering a career in education or for an experienced individual with strong behaviour management and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise whole classes during teacher absence, ensuring students remain engaged with pre-set work
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school’s policies
- Provide support to students, answering questions and keeping them focused on tasks
- Report back to teaching staff on student progress and any issues arising during lessons
- Support the wider school where required, including administrative or pastoral duties
- Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment
Person Specification
Essential:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage groups of students confidently
- Good organisational skills and ability to follow lesson plans
- Calm, professional and adaptable approach
- Basic ICT skills
Desirable:
- Experience working with young people or in an educational setting
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies
- A degree or relevant qualification
