Cover Supervisor – Permanent role – Part time – 3 days

Hours of work: 19.5 hours per week (over 3 days)

Working pattern: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

Term time only.

£15.41 per hour 

£11,715 annual salary – part time

Role Overview

We are seeking a confident and organised Cover Supervisor to join our school in Penrith, Cumbria. The successful candidate will supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring pupils remain on task with the work set and maintaining a positive learning environment.

This is an ideal role for someone considering a career in education or for an experienced individual with strong behaviour management and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise whole classes during teacher absence, ensuring students remain engaged with pre-set work
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school’s policies
  • Provide support to students, answering questions and keeping them focused on tasks
  • Report back to teaching staff on student progress and any issues arising during lessons
  • Support the wider school where required, including administrative or pastoral duties
  • Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage groups of students confidently
  • Good organisational skills and ability to follow lesson plans
  • Calm, professional and adaptable approach
  • Basic ICT skills

Desirable:

  • Experience working with young people or in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies
  • A degree or relevant qualification
